Our Founder
Hi! I’m Marc Maxhimer, Founder & President of Piper Publishing. As a third-generation business owner, I am thrilled to continue the family legacy. The idea of owning a business was instilled in me by my father, who owned Maxhimer Pharmacy, where I stood beside my mother to bag items as she rang them up at the cash register, making it a truly family-run business. Now I am continuing this tradition with Piper Publishing, founded with my wife and daughters’ help, input, and encouragement.
Piper Publishing gets its name from my Grandpa Piper, who owned Piper Coal & Building Supply, and it just so happens to be my daughter’s middle name. The Piper icon comes from The College of Wooster, where my wife graduated and I attended. As one of only a handful of colleges in the country with a Pipe Band, my former roommate and friends all played bagpipes. We have a 25-year tradition of spending Labor Day with C.O.W. friends and listening to the bagpipes by the fire.
My decision to start Piper Publishing was a no-brainer. I believe there are many first-time authors looking to take their expertise to the next level by writing a book. As a former English teacher, I have a passion for books and just want to see more books in the world! And my favorite part of the process is seeing the smile and emotion on an author’s face when they hold their book for the first time.
I have spent 5 years in the content creator, content entrepreneur, and publishing world. First, helping creators learn how to grow and run a business with The Tilt and CEX, where I was in charge of education and partnerships. During this time, I also co-authored the book The Content Entrepreneur with Joe Pulizzi to teach how to build a business as a creator and entrepreneur. I moved into the publishing world when Lulu Press acquired The Tilt to create Tilt Publishing. And this is where I found my true passion — helping people become published authors.
